KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION: Registration for parents interested in enrolling their children in kindergarten at La Conner Elementary School will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. May 16 and 17. Bring proof of immunizations and birth certificates. Call 360-466-3172 to schedule a day and time.

BURLINGTON-EDISON SCHOLARSHIPS: The Burlington-Edison Foundation has scholarship opportunities available for district graduates who are sophomores, juniors or seniors in college.

The $1,000 Duane and Arleen Stowe Family Scholarship will be awarded to a Burlington-Edison High School graduate who is entering their junior or senior year in post-secondary education and attending any fully accredited college or university in Washington state. Applicants must demonstrate a financial need, a cumulative college GPA of 3.0 and a proven record of community service.

The $1,000 Gene and Lottie Overway Family Scholarship will be awarded to a Burlington-Edison High School graduate who is entering their sophomore, junior or senior year in post-secondary education and attending any fully accredited college or university to study to become a firefighter or EMT.

ACHIEVEMENT AWARDS: Three Sedro-Woolley School District schools have been honored as recipients of the Washington Achievement Awards, which honor the state’s top-performing schools.

Clear Lake, Big Lake and Lyman elementary schools were recognized in the annual awards, sponsored by the Washington State Board of Education and the state Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction.

The award is based on the schools’ performance in seven categories: overall excellence, high progress, English language arts growth, math growth, extended graduation rate (high and comprehensive schools only) English language acquisition, and achievement gap.

Clear Lake is honored for overall excellence, math growth, and English language arts growth. Big Lake and Lyman elementary schools are being honored for math growth.

DISCOVER SUMMER: Boys & Girls Clubs of Skagit County is accepting new member enrollments for Discover More this summer. Open to youths entering first through seventh grade. The cost is $120 a week, or $300 a week for a family of three or more, plus applicable membership fees. Discover More is part of the Discover Summer program and operates from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. (6:30 p.m. in Sedro-Woolley) Monday through Friday. It is offered at the Anacortes, Mount Vernon and Sedro-Woolley clubs, and at Maiben Park in Burlington.

Meals and snacks, as well as several field trips, such as to the Seattle Aquarium, Woodland Park Zoo, and Birch Bay Waterslides, are included.
