El Dorado just one out away from trip to CIF-SS final, but Corona rallies to steal spot – Orange County Register

PLACENTIA – El Dorado was one out away from advancing to the CIF-SS Division 1 championship game Tuesday, as it led by one run in the top of the seventh inning against Corona.

Stanford-bound Brendan Beck drove in Eric Gomez from second base with a single to center field to extend the game to extra innings, and the Panthers scored three runs in the eighth to take a 5-2 victory at El Dorado.

“I would say it’s probably the toughest (loss),” said Golden Hawks coach Matt Lucas, who completed his 13th season with the heart-breaker. “We’ve been in the quarterfinals before and the semis this year, and to be one strike away, it’s tough, it’s tough.”
