The Wethersfield Historical Society celebrated George Washington’s 285th birthday by hosting a ball, with 18th century dancing and attendees dressed in period costume.
The ball was held on Saturday, Feb. 11, from 7 to 9 p.m., at the Keeney Memorial Cultural Center, and featured traditional dance caller Patricia Campbell. The ball was also a participatory event for re-enactors and other interested participants.
Amy Northup Wittorff, executive director of the historical society, said the first-time venture is an idea she brought with her from her time at a New York City museum, and is committed to making it a tradition in Wethersfield.
“Wethersfield is a great community, and I thought it would be fun,” she said.
