A rural animal hospital in Neosho County also is a sanctuary for exotic animals to live out their lives.
Many of the exotic animals on veterinarian Carol Hines’ farm were given to her, but she had some before she opened Deer Creek Animal Hospital in 2001. She said she has been in exotic animal practice since 1994.
“No other vets were doing it,” she said. “It was just a natural fit.”
Most of her medical practice deals with small companion animals like dogs and cats. She said she has the best clients, and other vets who have filled in for her have complimented her on her patients.
She also has six cows on the farm that she treats, but only for her own family.
“I just do the large animals for myself,” she said.
