Missing New Mexico dog found at Georgia lake reunited with family

A dog stolen from its family’s yard in New Mexico months ago finally reunited with its owner Wednesday after turning up more than 1,200 miles away. 

The dog, named Pumpkin, was running around Lake Allatoona in Georgia on Saturday when Annette Hatt saw him, WXIA reported

Hatt, who has fostered animals, said she was told the Lhasa Apso had been at the lake for weeks but that no one could find his owner because Pumpkin didn’t have a tag on his collar. Hatt said she tried to find the owner at the lake again before taking Pumpkin home with her. 

“I said, ‘I can’t allow this dog to sit here by itself,'” she told the news station.

Hatt took to social media to look for the owner. She posted a photo of the dog on the Facebook page “Furry Friends Lost and Found in Cherokee County” and asked people to share it. 

“Unable to care for the dog, we will be turning it over to animal control. Please share, I would love to find it’s owner!” she wrote in the post. 

A woman then agreed to take the dog to the veterinarian to see if she had a microchip. That’s when they learned that Pumpkin’s owner was actually…
