Southampton left back Ryan Bertrand has revealed that he left Chelsea in order to get consistent first-team opportunities.
The England defender left the club he had joined at the age of 15 to move to the south coast on loan in 2014, before making the deal permanent a year later.
He has since become a regular at international level and a mainstay for this season’s EFL Cup finalists, and though he admits it was hard to leave Stamford Bridge, he believes it was necessary for the sake of his career.
